Impact of the A35 on the rehabilitation project of a former industrial site

Context

SCI ILLOS is the owner of several plots of land located in the city of Ostwald and located near the A35 freeway. A development project has been planned by the company on these plots, and the latter has mandated AIR&D to carry out an air quality study to assess the impact of the A35 freeway.

To do this, three-dimensional models of the dispersion of pollutants from road traffic on the A35 were carried out. These models are based on a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model in order to take into account the complexity of the construction project, the weather, but also the elevation of the freeway and the presence of noise barriers. In addition, a measurement campaign was also performed to qualify the initial state.

The modeling results showed that the noise barrier blocks the pollution on the road axis and allows to significantly decrease the concentrations of nitrogen oxides and fine particles from the A35.
